අසභ්‍ය පින්තූර ඊ මේල් කළ අයෙක් පොලිස් දැලට කොටුවේ. ඔහු ලංකාවේ විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයක සහකාර රෙජිස්ටර් වර්යෙකි.ඔහුට වුරුද්ධ චෝදනාව වන්නේ තම ඊ මේල් ලිපිනයෙන් අදාල අසභ්‍ය ළමා පින්තූර යැවීම හා ඒවා ලඟ තබා ගැනීමයි. ජාතික ළමා රක්ෂක අධිකාරිය මඟින් කරන ලද පරීක්ෂණ මත ඔහු අත් අඩන්ගුවට ගෙන ඇත. ඔහු අත් අඩන්ගුවට ගෙන ඇත්තේ දන්ඩනීති සංග්‍රහයේ 286 ඩී නැමති ළමා අපචර වගන්තිය යටතේ ය.

The Colombo High Court fixed order for September 10th in a case against the Ex-Kelaniya University's Senior Assistant Registrar who was charged with distributing and publishing material relating to child phonography via e-mail, taken up before High Court judge. Deepali Wijesundara, yesterday (04).

The accused D. Kamal Padmalal Bandara Wimalaweera, Ex-Kelaniya University's Senior Assistant Registrar, who is indicted with distributing child pornographic material using his e-mail account and having such material in his possession. Wimalaweera was charged with committing the offence of publishing child pornographic material which is punishable under Section 286 D of the Penal Code. The offensive conducts is said to have been committed between March 31 and August 11, 2002.

At the end of the prosecution's case, defence Counsel called for release of the defendant on the grounds that the prosecution had failed to prove its charges and evidence was lacking.

A number of witnesses, including officers of the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) who had conducted the investigation and arrested the accused gave evidence.

A witness, who was involved in the investigations, said that he took part in the investigation of the suspect and was given a file including information obtained from the internet and e-mails, including pictures of naked children.

He had held several telephone conversations with the accused and had come to know that the suspect was calling from the Post Graduate Institute of the Kelaniya University. Later he met the accused at Kelaniya on a Sunday with a police team from the Peliyagoda police station, identified the suspect as the Senior Assistant Registrar of the Kelaniya University.

The prosecution was led by State Counsel, Sudarshana de Silva.
